A Very Delhi Weekend - Day 2

This post is way overdue (October 1st).  We followed up our Saturday in Delhi with the family with a half day in Old Delhi (just adults) with our friends Ted and Ami.  We began the day with a very comfy tuk-tuk ride with all four of us to the Metro Station to ride the train for the first time.  Ami took a lot better pictures of this trip and you can see them by clicking here.

We had heard that the Metro was extremely crowded; however, our first taste of it was quite the opposite.  There were very few people in the station and it was surprisingly clean.

Little did Ted and I know what this would mean for us

The picture below does not do justice for how crowded this train car was.  At every station people were pushing and shoving to get in and out.  I truly felt like a canned sardine.  Not pictured, is the "women only" car where Ami and Liv sat in a virtually empty car with plenty of room.  You can see a great shot on her blog from the women's car into the men's car.

Walking out of the Old Delhi Metro station is a great experience.  The sights, smells and sounds are like nowhere else I've ever been.

Nice Wiring - If you watch the video at the end you'll see
a monkey swinging through the wires

After walking for a while, we ended up hiring bike-rickshaws to take us to the Spice Market.  It's surprisingly scary, especially when crossing traffic or merging.  The best part was when Ted and Ami's driver got off the bike and started yelling, "No Airport."  He thought Ted wanted him to take them all the way to the airport.  Ted kept saying over and over until it was understood, "No... Red Fort"

more pictures here.
And lastly, some videos put together taken with Liv's camera....
